Past - Self Meditation
As we move forward through life, it is sometimes challenging to honour all the versions of yourself that have lived and died in order for you to arrive where you are in the now. It can also be challenging to come to terms with those versions of ourselves that are still hurting, or that have been quieted, shamed or straight up ignored. Which parts of you are hurting? How old are they? How long has it been since you went back to hold yourself?
Get into a comfortable laying or sitting position, in an environment where you won't be interrupted or distracted. Inhale through your nose, slowly filling up your belly and feeling yourself expand. Hold for 1-3 heartbeats. Release slowly through the nose, listening and feeling as the air flows out. Repeat until your body is relaxed. When you're ready to, branch your thoughts. Speak carefully and with intention, and ask in your mind, if there are any versions of yourself that need to be acknowledged or shown loving attention. Continue to breathe, and allow whatever thoughts or feelings to arise, to do so organically. Perhaps you can call forward a child-version of yourself. Or a version of yourself that you have long forgot. Ask who needs to be brought forward, and be the quiet space to observe who reveals themselves.
When you see, meet or hear yourself, ask them what they need. Give them a big hug. Send them love. Tell them you are proud of them. Do they want to talk? Do they need to hear any affirmations? Be gentle in asking what they need. Allow yourself to expand and release in whatever makes sense to support yourself.
When you feel ready to return, give honor to all versions of yourself. Take your time coming back to the room, and to your body. You can choose to journal, meditate or take a rest after your journey.
This meditation can be an emotional one. Surround yourself with the supports that you need, and above all give yourself thanks. You are your greatest healer, and most sacred subject. You are magic. You are love.
